Child support.By what the children need, and what each parent can.Child support lawyer in Tel Aviv
Child support is the payment that covers the children's needs after a separation: food, clothing, housing, education and health. The amount is set in an agreement between the parents or in a judgment.
I represent parents on both sides: those claiming support, and those asking to reduce support already set.

How the amount is set
In 2017 Israel's Supreme Court held that for children aged 6 to 15 both parents are liable for support, according to each one's means and the parenting time. Under age 6, the duty to cover essential needs still rests mainly on the father. The full explanation is in the article on child support and age.
What the court looks at
- The children's needs, by age and the way of life they are used to.
- Both parents' incomes, not only the salary on the payslip.
- Actual parenting time with each parent.
- Special expenses: education, medical treatment, activities.
When parenting time is almost equal
When the children spend similar time with each parent, and both earn similar amounts, support can drop substantially. It is not automatic. The details are in the article on equal parenting time.
Changing support already set
When there has been a material change since support was set, in incomes, needs or parenting time, you can ask to increase or reduce it. The person asking for the change has to prove it.
When support is not paid
A support judgment can be enforced through the Enforcement Office. In some cases the National Insurance Institute pays the support and collects it from the paying parent.
Questions
01Until what age is child support paid?
Usually until 18. During military or national service, courts commonly set reduced support, often a third of the amount.
02Can temporary support be ordered?
Yes. At the start of the case you can ask for temporary support, so the children do not wait for the judgment.
03What if the other parent is not working?
The court also considers each parent's earning potential, not only actual income.
